Jane S. Roberts

    Mrs. Jane Stevens Roberts, noted Dade County civic leader, was born in Eckman, West Virginia on April 15, 1917. Upon graduating from Hannah More Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, she attended the University of Miami School of Music. On November 25, 1938, she married Lyle Roberts, and is the mother of three daughters and one son. Mrs. Roberts was very active as the secretary-treasurer of Lyle Roberts, inc. construction business for 32 years.

    When not working in the family business, Mrs. Roberts became extremely active in community affairs. She was appointed to the Dade County School Board by Governor Collins in 1957. She was elected to he board in 1958, 1960, 1964 and was the first woman chairman of the board from 1961-1967. Mrs. Roberts has served on numerous community and statewide committees, including the United Fund, Welfare Planning Council, Florida Society for the Prevention of Blindness, National Committee for the Support of Public Schools and the College Assistance Program of Dade County Inc.

    Mrs. Roberts was voted the Outstanding Woman of Dade County (1960), is listed in Who's Who in American Women (1963, 1964, 1965) and Who's Who in South and Southwest (1965). Numerous other honors have been bestowed upon Mrs. Roberts, and many other organizations are proud to have her among their membership.
